Prosecutor appealing case against Tigers' Evan Reed

Steven Bisig / USA TODAY Sports

DETROIT  - Prosecutors are asking a judge to reinstate charges against pitcher Evan Reed who was accused of sexually assaulting a woman last spring when he played with the Detroit Tigers.

A Detroit judge found problems with the case and dismissed it in August, saying the woman's story wasn't credible. A different judge will hear an appeal Friday in Wayne County court.

The 45-year-old woman says she met Reed at a bar in Royal Oak, and they later went to a casino hotel in Detroit on the eve of Opening Day. She says she ''blacked out'' after taking her third drink at the bar and believes she was drugged.

The 28-year-old Reed insists they had consensual sex. He's now a free agent after pitching with the Tigers and Triple-A Toledo last season.
