Report: Red Sox offer to Lester believed to be worth at least 6 years, $110M

The Boston Red Sox have reportedly put forth a competitive offer to bring back left-hander Jon Lester.

Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe provided further detail to an earlier report claiming Lester received an offer from his former club this week. That offer is believed to be in the range of six years and $110-$120 million, according to Cafardo.

The latter figure would represent a $2.5-million increase in average annual value from the four-year, $70-million contract Lester rejected in March.

A source tells Rob Bradford of WEEI.com that the Red Sox are making it clear they are willing to negotiate their initial offer.

Although Lester's agent said the Red Sox showed great respect with their offer, the reported figures are still well below his perceived market value. MLB Trade Rumors projects Lester to at least match the six-year, $147-million deal Zack Greinke signed two years ago.
