The Seattle Mariners dipped into the international free-agent pool by signing Cuban left-hander Misael Siverio to a minor-league deal on Monday.

“This is a proud moment for me, to be able to join the Seattle Mariners who have several Cubans in the organization that are my compatriots,” Siverio said, according to the MLBlogs Network. “I feel very happy because of the way that I have been treated here in Seattle and now the only thing left to do is to do my part, work hard and reach the Major Leagues."

Siverio played six seasons in Cuba before leaving in 2013. The 25-year-old spent last winter in the Mexican Pacific League where he posted a 3-1 record to go along with a 2.45 ERA and 36 strikeouts in 29 1/3 innings.

He is set to take part in Mariners mini-camp in mid-to-late February.
