Mets' Collins on 2015 season: 'We should be playing in October'

The New York Mets are on the rise and manager Terry Collins is fully buying in.

“We should be playing in October,” Collins said when asked by Kristie Ackert of the New York Daily News about his prediction for next season. “Our young guys are starting to grow, with the addition of some offense, and ... we’re not done. I don’t think (GM) Sandy (Alderson) by any means (is done) ... we’re going to make some more moves before spring training starts.

“I think 2015 is going to be a good year for us.”

New York, who finished with its highest win total in the last four seasons in 2014, hasn't lost any significant pieces to free agency and addressed its need for a right-handed hitting corner outfielder by signing Michael Cuddyer. The rotation will be bolstered by Matt Harvey's return from Tommy John, in addition to top prospect Noah Syndergaard's expected jump to the majors.

The Mets have missed the postseason eight straight years but will have their opportunity in a weakened National League East. The Philadelphia Phillies are preparing for a rebuild and the Atlanta Braves could potentially follow suit, though the Washington Nationals remain the class of the division and the Miami Marlins are continuing to improve.
