Francisco Cervelli: Traded To The Pirates

Cervelli was traded to the Pirates on Wednesday, Jon Heyman of CBS Sports reports.

Analysis:

Cervelli had been limited to a backup role in New York, but should see an opportunity for more reps in Pittsburgh, as Russell Martin has declined his $15.3 million qualifying offer for next season. This doesn't necessarily mean the Pirates have halted their pursuit of Martin, but they'll now have a solid insurance policy in place in case he ends up walking. Cervelli won't be much of a power threat in Pittsburgh, but can certainly help those in deep, two-catcher leagues, as the backstop slashed .301/.370/.432 over 49 games last season. If Martin ends up finding a new home, Cervelli's fantasy value will rise considerably.
