Report: Orioles make offer to A.J. Burnett

Jake Roth-USA TODAY Sports / Reuters

Eager to bolster their starting rotation, the Baltimore Orioles have offered a contract to veteran right-hander A.J. Burnett, according to Jeff Passan of Yahoo! Sports.

Though a deal is hardly imminent, Burnett seems like a natural fit for the Orioles, who secured their first division title since 1997 last season. The 37-year-resides in Maryland during the offseason and expressed his desire to play for a contender after declining his $12.75-million option with the Philadelphia Phillies for next season.

Burnett, a 16-year veteran, struggled with the Phillies last season, posting a 4.59 ERA (81 ERA+) with a 1.41 WHIP over 34 starts after signing a one-year deal with the club in February.
