Report: Diamondbacks interested in Chad Billingsley

Christopher Hanewinckel-USA TODAY Sports

The Arizona Diamondbacks could target a high-risk pitcher in their efforts to improve off a last-place finish in 2014.

Jack Magruder of FOX Sports Arizona said Tuesday the Diamondbacks are interested in oft-injured free-agent pitcher Chad Billingsley.

Billingsley has been limited to two appearances since the start of the 2013 season due to multiple surgeries on his pitching elbow.

The 2003 first-round pick's career was on the upswing before he partially tore his ulnar collateral ligament in 2012. He underwent Tommy John surgery in 2013 after a setback in his rehab.

The 30-year-old Billingsley, who has spent his entire career with the Los Angeles Dodgers, put up a 3.65 ERA over 1,000-plus innings from 2007-2012, and was an All-Star in 2009.
