Joakim Soria will remain a member of the Detroit Tigers in 2015, with the team exercising the right-handed reliever's $7-million option on Friday.
Soria - acquired in a trade from the Texas Rangers in July - made 13 appearances during the regular season for the Tigers, posting a 4.91 ERA and six strikeouts while logging 11 innings. He struggled in the postseason, however, along with the rest of the Tigers bullpen, allowing five runs in two appearances.
Year | IP | ERA | WHIP | SO-BB |
---|---|---|---|---|
2014 | 44.1 | 3.25 | 0.99 | 48-6 |
2013 | 23.2 | 3.80 | 1.35 | 28-14 |
2011 | 60.1 | 4.03 | 1.27 | 60-17 |
With the departure of Joba Chamberlain to free agency and the Tigers' unwillingness to remove Joe Nathan from the closer's role, Soria is expected to receive the bulk of his work in the eighth inning next season.
