The Kansas City Royals were 90 feet away from sending Game 7 of the World Series to extra innings and a chance at their first championship since 1985, but general manager Dayton Moore is already looking ahead to next season.

"We have some tough decisions to make with our roster," Moore said after the heartbreaking loss.

Some of those tough decisions include the futures of Billy Butler, Nori Aoki and James Shields with the club. Shields and Aoki are both now free agents and the team holds a $12-million option on Butler for next season.

Further complicating the financial picture: Eric Hosmer, Mike Moustakas, Kelvin Herrera, Greg Holland and Lorenzo Cain are all hitting their arbitration years.

Moore, however, does have a clear agenda heading into the offseason.

"We'll have to continue to add starting pitching and continue to try and put things together the way we have."

The deep playoff run has put Kansas City back on the baseball map after a 29-year absence.
