Report: Twins had 'no contact' with Joe Maddon

The Minnesota Twins remain one of just two MLB clubs with a managerial vacancy, but have not reached out to Joe Maddon, who unexpectedly exercised his opt-out clause with the Tampa Bay Rays earlier this month.

“There has been no contact - at all,” a person with direct knowledge told Mike Berardino of the St. Paul Pioneer Press.

Twins general manager Terry Ryan said the club would do its "due diligence" on Maddon as it looks for a successor to Ron Gardenhire, who was fired last month after 13 seasons in Minnesota. Maddon, however, is reportedly looking for a five-year deal in the $25 million range that will likely remove the Twins from consideration.

“I think they realize Joe is not in their budget,” a source close to Maddon told the Pioneer Press .

Maddon's agent said last week that he's heard from roughly half of the league's general managers, but emphasized the 60-year-old is prepared to sit out a season if he doesn't find the right fit.
