Giants hitting coach on Posey: 'I expect him to do something great'

San Francisco Giants catcher Buster Posey has done little of note through the first three games of the World Series, but hitting coach Hensley Meulens remains confident the 27-year-old is on the verge of something special.

“I expect him to do something great for us before it’s all over,” Meulens told CSNBayArea's Andrew Baggarly. “Great players rise to the occasion and he’s always done it for us. I won’t be surprised if he does it again. But we need everybody. It’s not just all on him, either.”

Posey, the National League's MVP two seasons ago, is hitting just .154 over his last three games and has managed a meager .579 OPS this postseason. Still, Meulens rejected the notion that the two-time All-Star is slumping.

“Even great hitters go into slumps, but I don’t think he’s in a slump,” he said, pointing out that Posey came within inches of two hits in Game 3. “You need a little luck, too, and you need a ball to find a hole sometimes."
