Twins GM: Miguel Sano won't play winter ball

Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

Minnesota Twins prospect Miguel Sano, who missed the entire season after undergoing Tommy John surgery, will not play winter ball in his native Dominican Republic this offseason.

General manager Terry Ryan said the 21-year-old third baseman did not encounter a setback in his recovery, but that "doctors do not want him to play,"  according to Mike Berardino of the St. Paul Pioneer Press

Sano emerged as one of the game's top prospects after hitting 35 home runs with a .992 OPS over 123 games in 2013, but his development stalled this season after a torn ulnar collateral ligament sidelined him for the entire campaign.
