Report: Victor Martinez seeking 4-year deal

Rick Osentoski-USA TODAY Sports

Victor Martinez is hoping to cash in on a career year.

The Detroit Tigers' impending free agent, who led the majors with a .974 OPS, is seeking a four-year deal, according to CBS Sports's Jon Heyman

Detroit will make Martinez a qualifying offer worth $15.3 million to ensure draft-pick compensation if he signs elsewhere, but Heyman, unsurprisingly, says he will reject it.

Martinez was one of the game's top performers this past season, hitting .335/.409/.565 with 103 RBIs and a career-high 32 homers. The designated hitter's .409 on-base percentage paced the American League and his 4.4 WAR, according to FanGraphs, was his best mark since a 2007 season with the Cleveland Indians.

Detroit signed Martinez to a four-year, $50 million deal in 2010.
