Giants' Strickland 'embarrassed' by his Game 2 actions

Peter G. Aiken-USA TODAY Sports

Hunter Strickland wishes he could have the sixth inning of Game 2 back.

Not only did Strickland once again get clobbered, but the San Francisco Giants right-hander went into an emotional fit after serving up his fifth home run of the postseason.

Strickland exchanged words and started yelling at Salvador Perez after the Kansas City Royals catcher rounded third and scored following a two-run homer from Omar Infante. Benches partially cleared before order was restored, but Strickland was pulled from the game and escorted off the field by an umpire.

"Obviously, I'm embarrassed about it," Strickland said, according to MLB.com's A.J. Cassavell. "I was in the moment, and I took it a little too far, and my emotions got to me. There's no hard feelings toward anybody. It's just what happened. I'm not going to deny it. I'm going to own up to what I did. I'm embarrassed in front of my teammates, the organization and all of the fans."

Strickland has faced 23 batters this postseason and allowed five homers, tying the record for most home runs allowed in a single postseason.

Despite his struggles and actions, manager Bruce Bochy hasn't turned his back on Strickland. Bochy has no choice, really, as an injury is the only way a team can replace a player on its postseason roster.

"This is a tough kid," Bochy said. "I was proud of how he owned his actions after the game. He stood up and he said, 'Hey, I made a mistake, I let my emotions get to me there.' But still, he's part of this club, and he's part of this bullpen. We have to have all of these guys ready and we may need them."
