Lincecum's MRI reveals no structural damage

San Francisco Giants reliever Tim Lincecum said his back is feeling much better and he's expected to be available for Game 3.

Lincecum was forced from Game 2 with back tightness after retiring all five batters he faced. He underwent a precautionary MRI on Thursday and the results showed no structural damage.

The Giants right-hander's appearance in Game 2 was his first game action since the final day of the regular season, but he's expected to be at the disposal of Giants manager Bruce Bochy when the series resumes in San Francisco on Friday.

"That's the plan," team athletic trainer Dave Groeschner told The Associated Press late Thursday night.

The two-time Cy Young winner played catch at AT&T Park during the Giants' off day, and was optimistic he'll return to the mound this series.

"Sitting on the plane was a little iffy but I just did my best to stay stretched out and keep loose," the Giants reliever said. "And now I'm just going to get it treated and see how it feels."

The Giants host the Kansas City Royals on Friday with the series tied 1-all. First pitch is scheduled for 8:07 p.m. ET.
