The Minnesota Twins declined right-hander Jared Burton's $3.6 million 2015 club option, the team's director of baseball relations and player development Dustin Morse announced Wednesday.
Burton, who has spent the last three seasons with the Twins, will receive a $200,000 buyout and is now a free agent. The right-hander posted a 3.47 ERA over 203 appearances in Minnesota after a five-year stint with the Cincinnati Reds. His 203 appearances since 2012 rank eighth in the American League.
Last season was Burton's worst year with Minnesota, as the 33-year-old recorded a 4.36 ERA and his lowest strikeout rate as a member of the Twins.
