Royals' Shields pulled in 4th inning after allowing 5 runs in Game 1 of World Series

"Big Game" James Shields may have to find a new nickname.

The Kansas City Royals right-hander's postseason struggles continued in Game 1 of the World Series, as Shields was pulled after allowing the first three San Francisco Giants to reach base in the fourth inning.

Shields, who entered Tuesday's start with a 5.63 ERA in three starts this postseason, was charged with five runs off seven hits and one walk in three innings.

Danny Duffy came on in relief and proceeded to walk two of the first three batters he faced – allowing Brandon Belt to score – before striking out Joe Panik and getting Buster Posey to pop out to shallow right field to end the inning.

Prior to Game 1, Shields spoke about how he hoped to put his October struggles behind him.

"I'm a big believer in amnesia," Shields noted Monday. "I've been doing it my whole entire career, and I've had a bunch of bad outings, and I've also come back from them, so I'm not really too worried about it."
