Phillies sign RHP Jerome Williams to one-year deal

Bill Streicher-USA TODAY Sports

The Philadelphia Phillies have gotten a head start on their offseason.

Philadelphia announced Monday that it signed impending free agent Jerome Williams to a one-year contract. The Phillies said the contract includes performance bonuses, while Jim Salisbury of CSN Philadelphia reports the deal is worth $2.5 million.

Williams, a nine-year veteran, bounced around last season before ending his year in Philadelphia. The right-hander started off with the Houston Astros, making 26 appearances with the club before being released and signing as a free agent with the Texas Rangers.

Philadelphia claimed the 32-year-old on waivers in August and he went on to post a 2.83 ERA over nine starts. Between the three teams, Williams was 6-7 with a 4.77 ERA in 115 innings.
