Rangers' Bogar to pursue other opportunies

Jim Cowsert / USA TODAY Sports

After being spurned by the Texas Rangers, former interim manager Tim Bogar has decided to part ways with the club.

Bogar, who managed the final 22 games of the season following Ron Washington's surprise resignation, was reportedly the favorite to become the 24th manager in franchise history. However, the team made a surprise hire on Thursday when former Pittsburgh Pirates bench coach Jeff Banister was named as the team's new manager.

"Jeff Banister and I have both had discussions with Tim over the last few days as we began the process of putting a Major League coaching staff together, and we have decided that it is best for us to go in another direction," general manager Jon Daniels told T.R. Sullivan of MLB.com

"I have indicated to Tim that he has the option of accepting another position within the organization and at present, he is going to look at other potential opportunities. I want to thank Tim for his contributions to the Rangers this past season, especially as interim manager under some very difficult circumstances."

Texas went 14-8 during Bogar's brief tenure.
