A long layoff after winning the NL pennant allowed manager Bruce Bochy to set the San Francisco Giants' rotation the way he wanted.

Ace Madison Bumgarner will start Game 1 of the World Series against the Kansas City Royals at Kauffman Stadium on Tuesday.

Bumgarner has followed up his stellar regular season with a dominant playoff run, helping propel the Giants to their third World Series appearance in the last five years.

The NL Championship Series MVP is 2-1 with a 1.42 ERA in four postseason starts. He has worked at least seven innings in each outing, while holding opponents to a .170 batting average.

Bumgarner will be opposed by Royals ace James Shields, who has a 5.63 ERA over three postseason starts.

Jake Peavy will start Game 2, going up against hard-throwing rookie Yordano Ventura. The Giants will follow with Tim Hudson and Ryan Vogelsong in Games 3 and 4 when the series shifts back to AT&T Park in San Francisco.

Peavy and Hudson have a combined 2.70 ERA over four postseason starts, a span of 23 1/3 innings. Hudson, a 16-year veteran, will be making his World Series debut when he takes the mound for Game 3.

Vogelsong threw well against the Washington Nationals in the NLDS, allowing one run over 5 2/3 innings but followed it up with a dud. He lasted three innings, surrendering four runs in his lone NLCS start vs. the St. Louis Cardinals.

First pitch from Kauffman Stadium for Game 1 is scheduled for 8:07 p.m. EST.
