Adam LaRoche: If it was up to me, I'd spend the rest of my career with the Nationals

Though Adam LaRoche's future with the Washington Nationals remains hazy, the 34-year-old first baseman made it perfectly clear earlier this week that he'd like to remain with the club until he retires.

"If it was up to me, I'm signing a deal with D.C. that puts me there for the rest of my career," LaRoche said during an appearance on CSN's SportsTalk Live with Brian Mitchell.

LaRoche spent the last four seasons with the Nationals, helping the club qualify for the postseason in both 2012 and 2014, but the team remains unlikely to exercise the $15-million mutual option LaRoche holds for 2015. Anthony Rendon enjoyed a marvelous season at third base in 2014, effectively forcing Ryan Zimmerman into a full-time role at first base next season that would leave LaRoche without a position.

Though the Nationals recently secured their second division title in the last three years, LaRoche expressed disappointment over his club's hasty exit from the postseason.

"We had an unbelievable record and an unbelievable team," said LaRoche. "It's so hard to look back on that and think of it as being successful because of what happened in the last week of the season leading into the playoffs. We had the team to go a long way.

"I know it sounds funny because I think every team can probably say that every year when they get beat in the playoffs, but it’s just disappointing because it’s one of the best teams I've ever been a part of. We just didn't show up. We didn't hit in the postseason and you can't do that."
