Tigers general manager Dave Dombrowski said he would love to re-sign Martinez, the Detroit Free Press reports.

Analysis:

Following an MVP caliber 2014 campaign, Martinez will likely receive a multi-year deal in line with the pact that Carlos Beltran signed with the Yankees last winter (three years, $45 million). Considering that he'll turn 36 in December, the chances of Martinez producing another season at his 2014 levels (.335/.409/.565, 32 HR, 103 RBI) seem remote, but he has shown improved plate discipline in the form of an increased walk rate (10.9% BB%) and elite 6.6% K%. Even if the ISO (a career-high .230 in 2014) regresses closer to his career mark (.168), he should be a steady run producer in the heart of an American League lineup in 2015.
