Orioles' Davis to miss Opening Day as suspension extends to 2015

Ed Szczepanski / USA TODAY Sports

The Baltimore Orioles were ousted from the postseason Thursday after being swept by the Kansas City Royals in the American League Championship Series, consequently ensuring that Chris Davis's 25-game suspension will extend into the 2015 campaign.

Davis had served the first 20 games of his suspension when the championship series began, but his club's hasty exit from the ALCS best-of-seven showdown has rendered him unavailable for Opening Day. He will, however, be eligible for reinstatement when the Orioles take on the Tampa Bay Rays in the second game of the regular season.

Davis, who hit just .196/.300/.404 (98 OPS+) with 26 home runs this season, was suspended in September after testing positive for Adderall, a drug for which he previously had a therapeutic use exemption.
