Report: Mets eyeing former Yankees hitting coach Kevin Long

Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports / Reuters

The New York Yankees fired hitting coach Kevin Long last week after the club's offense struggled in 2014, but the 47-year-old instructor may have another opportunity for employment in the Empire State.

According to Mike Puma of the New York Post, Long has already been contacted by the New York Mets about a job on their staff that opened after hitting coach Lamar Johnson was reassigned within the organization earlier this month.

Long, who took over as the Yankees' hitting coach in 2007, could also generate interest from the Boston Red Sox and Arizona Diamondbacks.
