Report: Diamondbacks to announce new manager Monday
The Arizona Diamondbacks are expected to announce their new manager Monday, less than three weeks after Kirk Gibson was fired, reports USA Today's Bob Nightengale.
The club is expected to choose from a group of four finalists - 11 candidates interviewed for the position - reportedly comprised of former Colorado Rockies manager Jim Tracy, Oakland Athletics bench coach Chip Hale, former All-Star Phil Nevin and Cleveland Indians bench coach Sandy Alomar Jr.
Though Tracy is the only finalist with previous managerial experience in the major leagues, three of Arizona's last four managers had not managed in the big leagues when they were hired.
Gibson, who took over as Diamondbacks manager in the middle of 2010, compiled a 353-375 record in parts of five seasons at the helm.
