Report: Cardinals' Molina fined $5,000 for shoving umpire in NLDS

St. Louis Cardinals catcher Yadier Molina received a $5,000 fine Friday for shoving umpire Jerry Meals during an altercation with Los Angeles Dodgers first baseman Adrian Gonzalez in Game 1 of the National League Division Series, reports Jon Heyman of CBS Sports.

Molina was enraged by comments from Gonzalez after Dodgers outfielder Yasiel Puig was hit with a pitch from Adam Wainwright during the third inning of Game 1. Meals intervened in an effort to diffuse the situation, prompting Molina to shove the veteran umpire as he barked at Gonzalez.

Major League Baseball levied the fine on Molina despite an earlier report from MLB.com that indicated "there would be no suspensions or fines imposed on anyone involved" in the Game 1 confrontation.
