Owings underwent successful surgery to repair the labrum in his left shoulder Thursday.
Analysis:
The 23-year-old struggled mightily upon his return from the shoulder injury, going just 15-for-72 (.208 average) in September, but Owings said Dr. James Andrews told him he did not further damage the labrum by continuing to play. The Diamondbacks still have not established a recovery timetable, but Owings is expected to be ready for spring training, and if healthy, he'll likely carve out a regular role in the middle infield.
