Angels' Hamilton will play left field, bat 7th in Game 1 vs. Royals

Los Angeles Angels outfielder Josh Hamilton will play in Game 1 Thursday vs. the Kansas City Royals despite injuring his shoulder, chest, and rib cage in September.

Hamilton declared himself fit for the series Tuesday, and will play left field and bat seventh. Manager Mike Scioscia is taking the pressure of batting cleanup off Hamilton by dropping him significantly in the order.

The 33-year-old has played in just one game since Sept. 4 due to various injuries and has received multiple cortisone shots in an effort to get healthy for the postseason.
