Report: Molitor to interview for Twins' managerial position

Jesse Johnson-USA TODAY Sports

Hall of Famer Paul Molitor could be in line for a promotion.

The Minnesota Twins' infield instructor, who took over as first-base coach last season after Joe Vavra injured his hip, will meet with general manager Terry Ryan on Wednesday regarding the team's open managing job, according to the Minneapolis Star Tribune.

Molitor has never managed at the major-league level, but possesses plenty of coaching experience in the minor leagues since retiring in 1998. He was a minor-league coordinator with the Twins from 2005-13 before joining the big-league coaching staff last season.

The Star Tribune also named former Twin Doug Mientkiewicz as another candidate. Mientkiewicz has managed the Fort Myers Miracle for the past two seasons, a Twins Class-A affiliate.

Minnesota is searching for a new manager after relieving long-time skipper Ron Gardenhire of his duties Wednesday.
