Tovar will join the Mets for their upcoming three-game series against the Nationals, Adam Rubin of ESPN New York reports.

Analysis:

Tovar will serve as a reserve infielder for the Mets, as Dilson Herrera's availability for the remainder of the season is in question after the second baseman suffered a strained right quad in Saturday's game. The 23-year-old collected three hits in 15 at-bats during the final part of the 2013 season, and could see sporadic middle-infield work over the Mets' final six games. Tovar, who hit .282 but with a .345 OBA along with two home runs and 29 RBI for Double-Binghamton, is already on the Mets' 40-man roster, so no corresponding move will have to be made.
