Tigers' Davis could miss ALDS with groin injury

The Detroit Tigers are waiting on the status of outfielder Rajai Davis before determining their roster for the American League Division Series against the Baltimore Orioles.

Tigers manager Brad Ausmus said Tuesday that Davis's condition remains day-to-day after suffering a Grade 1 groin sprain during Saturday's game. Ausmus added that Davis could be left off the roster entirely if his injury doesn't heal in time.

Davis was held out of Sunday's season finale with what the club described as a strained ligament in his pelvic area. Davis said he expects to be ready for Game 1 on Monday.

The loss of the speedy veteran would create a significant hole in the Tigers lineup. While Davis isn't a particularly strong defender, his bat and range in center field would be difficult to replace at this point in the season.

Davis, whose .282/.320/.401 slash line this season was his highest since 2010, assumed an everyday job in the outfield after the Tigers traded Austin Jackson to Seattle as part of the David Price acquisition.

Ezequiel Carrera, who started in center on Sunday, would likely replace Davis if he's left off the roster.
