Braves interim GM: 'We don’t need an overhaul'

The Atlanta Braves fired general manager Frank Wren on Monday just hours after the club was officially eliminated from postseason contention, but the executive's temporary replacement doesn't believe the team's roster needs a dramatic makeover.

"We don’t need an overhaul," interim GM John Hart told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. "It's not a disaster. But there are certainly some things we need to take a look at, although I’m not at liberty to discuss names right now."

A lack of offense plagued the Braves in 2014, as the "lethargic" club averaged just 3.54 runs per game and compiled an ugly .234/.300/.337 line after the All-Star break.

"The team is not dynamic," Hart admitted. "You can say it’s just one of those years or it’s the wrong combination of players, but there’s not a lot of team speed, and you can’t play a lot of action baseball."

“The club is missing a veteran presence. It showed when the wheels came off and there was no go-to player. You don’t need guys to holler or run around like their hair is on fire, but you need veterans, even if they’re on the bench.

Hart is expected to run the team for at least the next month, though Braves president John Schuerholz reportedly offered him the opportunity to take over the club on a permanent basis.
