B.J. Upton sets Braves' record for most strikeouts in a single season

Jason Getz / USA TODAY Sports

B.J. Upton's two years in Atlanta have been a disaster and now his futility at the plate has earned him a spot in the Braves' record books.

Upton inked a five-year, $75.25 million deal prior to the 2013 season and entered Friday hitting .197/.277/.310 with 20 home runs, 60 RBI and 322 strikeouts in 265 games with Atlanta.

The 30-year-old sits seventh in the majors with 172 strikeouts this season but has 45 less at-bats than league leader Ryan Howard, who has been punched out 188 times.

Former general manager Frank Wren, who inked Upton to his deal, was fired Monday
