Nationals' Span lifted in third inning vs. Mets after diving catch

Washington Nationals center fielder Denard Span was removed from Tuesday's clash against the New York Mets in the third inning, shortly after making a sensational diving catch on the warning track.

Span, whose catch prompted a standing ovation from the appreciative crowd, did not appear to be in discomfort as he jogged off the field but was replaced in the lineup by Michael Taylor for his third-inning at-bat.

Span has proven tremendously durable this season, appearing in all but 12 of his team's contests.
