Angels' Weaver dealing with the flu

Kelvin Kuo / USA TODAY Sports

The Los Angeles Angels' rotation has dealt with a multitude of injuries and ailments this season, so it should come as no surprise that ace Jered Weaver would catch the flu a week before the playoffs begin.

Weaver, who is slated to start Game 1 of the American League Divisional Series (ALDS) next Thursday, wasn't at the Angels game on Monday in Oakland and was sent back to the team's hotel on Tuesday, according to Mike DiGiovanna of the Los Angeles Times.

While Weaver is expected to be healthy for the playoffs, it could derail the rotation the Angels had lined up heading into October. The right-hander last pitched Saturday and is supposed to take the mound Friday in Seattle, depending on his condition.

Los Angeles lost pitchers Tyler Skaggs and Garrett Richards to season-ending injuries earlier this year, and rookie Matt Shoemaker continues to deal with an oblique strain. Despite the injuries, the Angels own the best record in baseball (96-61).
