Yankees' Beltran to wait until end of season to have surgery

Adam Hunger / USA TODAY Sports

New York Yankees outfielder Carlos Beltran will need elbow surgery, but it appears he's willing to wait until the end of the season to get it.

Beltran has been held out of the lineup since Friday as he continues to battle elbow soreness - a problem he admits has been hindering him all year.

"Before the game it bothered me [Saturday] and I tried to play and it continued to bother me. Forearm’s tight. It’s the same thing," Beltran told ESPN. "It's been like that the whole season."

The 37-year-old, who missed 30 games this season due to bone spurs in his elbow, is hitting .233/.301/.402 with 15 home runs and 49 RBI through 109 games.

Recovery time from surgery is expected to be 12 weeks, so delaying the date until after the season isn't expected to jeopardize Beltran from being ready for the start of Spring Training.

The Yankees enter Sunday 4 1/2 games back of the second wild card with eight games remaining.
