Yankees' Teixeira not in lineup Sunday due to wrist injury

Andy Marlin / USA TODAY Sports

Soreness in Mark Teixeira's surgically-repaired right wrist will keep the New York Yankees first baseman out of the lineup Sunday.

Teixeira departed in the seventh inning of Saturday's game against the Toronto Blue Jays after complaining of pain in his wrist. The 34-year-old plans to receive a third cortisone injection in hopes to finish out the season.

Once a model of health - appearing in an average of 152 games during his first nine seasons - Teixeira has been limited to 119 games in 2014 due to numerous ailments and missed all but 15 games in 2013 following the aforementioned wrist surgery.

Teixeira, who is owed $45 million over the next two seasons, is hitting .216/.317/.395 with 21 home runs and 58 RBI in 425 at-bats.
