American League Game Summary - Texas at LA Angels of Anaheim

Anaheim, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - David Freese hit a three-run home run and the LA Angels of Anaheim held on for an 8-5 win over the Texas Rangers in the second of a three-game set.

Mike Trout added a two-run home run and scored three times while Albert Pujols also hit a two-run home run for the Angels, who had lost four of their last six coming in.

Jered Weaver (18-8) allowed three runs on five hits with a walk and seven strikeouts over seven-plus innings to win his third straight start.

Adrian Beltre hit three doubles and drove in two runs for the Rangers, who had a season-high seven-game winning streak broken. Colby Lewis (10-14) gave up eight runs -- seven earned -- on nine hits in five innings of work.

"Colby couldn't keep the ball down and when he left it over the plate they didn't miss it," said Texas manager Tim Bogar.

Howie Kendrick doubled home a run in the first inning and Trout gave his two- run home run in the third for a 3-0 lead.

"I put a good swing on it and I hit it well," said Trout. "It's fun playing behind Weaver because he gives us a chance every time he's out there."

Trout tripled with two outs in the fifth and Pujols followed with his 27th homer of the season. After consecutive singles from Kendrick and Erick Aybar, Freese launched his 10th home run of the season for an 8-0 lead.

A Jake Smolinski groundout in the seventh scored a runner to get Texas on the board.

The Rangers then put up four runs in the eighth to make things interesting. Adam Rosales singled in one run with no outs, and Rougned Odor singled home another with two outs.

After Joe Smith took the mound, Beltre greeted him with a double to left to make it an 8-5 game. Smith, though, got Smolinski to ground out and end the frame.

Huston Street tossed a 1-2-3 ninth for his 15th save of the season.
