VIDEO: Nationals' Zimmermann takes comebacker off shoulder, says it's a 'little sore'

Steve Mitchell / USA TODAY Sports

The Washington Nationals have already clinched the National League East title. Now the team's priority is keeping players healthy for the remainder of the regular season in anticipation of the playoffs.

That's easier said than done.

Nationals starting pitcher Jordan Zimmermann nearly gave manager Matt Williams a heart attack Saturday night when the right-hander took a Casey McGehee comebacker off his throwing shoulder in the sixth inning. Zimmermann shook it off, though, and finished the inning before making way for Aaron Barrett.

#Nats' RHP Jordan Zimmermann appears to be fine, but took a line drive off his right shoulder...

Zimmermann said his shoulder was a "little sore" after the game but didn't seem overly worried about it being a long-term issue.

How important is Zimmermann to the Nationals' rotation?

The team set a franchise record with its 10th consecutive victory in games started by him with a 3-2 win over the Miami Marlins.
