Giants legend McCovey hospitalized for complications stemming from an infection

The San Francisco Giants released the following statement Friday regarding the health of franchise great Willie McCovey:

Giants Hall of Famer Willie McCovey was hospitalized last week for complications stemming from an infection. He is being treated at a local hospital and his recovery is progressing every day. The Giants remain in close contact with Willie and his family and urge all fans to keep Willie in their thoughts as he recovers. Fans wishing to send Willie get well messages can do so via email to williemac@sfgiants.com or via mail to Willie McCovey c/o San Francisco Giants, San Francisco, CA 94107. 

The 76-year-old played for the Giants from 1959-1973 and was a six-time All-Star. The inlet of San Francisco Bay just beyond the right field wall at AT&T Park is known as McCovey Cove in his honor.
