Report: Nationals likely to activate Ryan Zimmerman on Saturday
A very dangerous Washington Nationals team is about to get a huge offensive boost.
Zimmerman has been sidelined since July 22 with a right hamstring strain, and manager Matt Williams is surely looking forward to getting his bat back in the lineup for the playoffs.
Zimmerman is a proven producer when healthy, hitting .282 with five home runs and 36 RBIs in 55 games. Where he will play, however, is a completely different story. Zimmerman has seen time at third base, left field and first base this season.
The red-hot Anthony Rendon is unlikely to be supplanted for Zimmerman at third base and Bryce Harper will be patrolling left field. Everyday first baseman Adam LaRoche has trouble hitting lefties (.201 average), so Zimmerman could be an option to replace him in such situations. At the very least, Zimmerman will provide Williams with a deadly pinch-hitting option.
