Miami Marlins staff ace Jose Fernandez has been cleared to begin a throwing program, reports team beat writer Joe Frisaro.
The righty visited Dr. Neal ElAttrache in Los Angeles on Thursday and was given the green light to begin throwing again on Oct. 1.
The Marlins are hopeful to have their 2013 National League Rookie of the Year back in action by the All-Star break next season.
Fernandez, who underwent Tommy John surgery on May 16, posted a 4-2 record with a 2.44 ERA in eight starts for Miami.
