Rangers GM on ideal manager: 'I want a partner'

Shortly after former manager Ron Washington explained why he abruptly tendered his resignation earlier this month, Texas Rangers general manager Jon Daniels provided a concise description of what it is he looks for in a prospective skipper.

“I want a partner,” Daniels told the Dallas Morning News.

Though Tim Bogar took over as the club's manager after Washington's departure, the Rangers are currently looking for a full-time replacement, one who can help champion the mandate of the front office throughout the organization.

“Someone to tie the big leagues to everything else,” is how Daniels described his ideal partner. “To scouting and development, to the front office, to the community.

The search has already begun to find a permanent replacement for Washington, who helped lead the Rangers to two American League pennants while notching 664 wins as manager, a franchise record.

"We are doing a lot of due diligence, talking to a lot of other people in the game and getting a lot of incoming calls recommending people," Daniels told MLB.com earlier this week. "We're in the stage of vetting those names and see who we want to talk to."
