Yankees' Carlos Beltran, wife lose unborn son

New York Yankees outfielder Carlos Beltran and his wife, Jessica, have lost their unborn son, according to a Facebook post by Beltran.

Beltran left the team due to a personal matter Wednesday, but the club has yet to make an announcement.

ESPN Deportes' Marly Rivera shared a translation of Beltran's statement:

Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter said he spoke with Beltran, and addressed the situation after Wednesday's series finale with the Tampa Bay Rays.

Jeter, via ESPNNewYork.com:

It put things in perspective. We are here, playing a game, trying to win games, but the bottom line is family is much more important than anything that happens on a baseball field. Your thoughts and prayers go out to him and his family. That's terrible. I feel bad for him. He should take as much time as he needs. I don't know how much time that is going to be, but he should. I can't imagine how he feels.

Beltran and his wife have two daughters.
