St. Louis, MO - Adam Wainwright notched St. Louis' first hit with two outs in the sixth and tossed his third shutout of the season in the Cardinals' 2-0 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers on Wednesday.

Wainwright (19-9) gave up seven hits and stuck out seven en route to his fifth complete game of the year. His four-start winning streak has allowed him to join Los Angeles Dodgers hurler Clayton Kershaw as the lone 19-game winners this season.

Wainwright, Matt Adams and Jhonny Peralta had the only three hits for the Cardinals, who remained 2 1/2 games ahead of the Pirates for first place in the NL Central. The Pirates beat the Red Sox on Wednesday.

Mike Fiers (6-3) gave up two runs -- one earned -- on three hits while striking out seven over seven innings for the Brewers, who sit 2 1/2 games behind Pittsburgh for the NL's second Wild Card spot.
