Brewers GM denies team in talks with Aramis Ramirez about 2015 mutual option

Milwaukee Brewers general manager Doug Melvin is acting quickly to squash reports the team is interested in exercising third baseman Aramis Ramirez's 2015 mutual option, as first reported by CBS Sports' Jon Heyman.

"We don't do anything on contracts until the end of the year," Melvin said in response to the report. "Paul Kinzer is (Ramirez's) agent. Paul Kinzer was in town a month ago and we met with him, and he never even brought it up."

Melvin also pointed out it takes two to tango in contract talks with Ramirez because of the mutual conditions of his current three-year, $36 million contract.

"So if the team picks it up, he has a chance to refuse it and go try to get a multi-year deal," Melvin added. "So that makes absolutely no sense reporting it."

Ramirez has not commented on his plans for the 2015 season to this point. The two sides can agree to exercise a $14 million option for next season or the Brewers can buy him out for $4 million.
