American League Game Summary - Cleveland at Houston
Houston, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - Corey Kluber struck out a career-high 14 batters over seven one-run innings as the Cleveland Indians defeated the Houston Astros, 4-2, in the second test of a four-game set.
Kluber (16-9) scattered seven hits and walked two for the Indians, who snapped a four-game losing streak. Yan Gomes smacked a two-run homer among his two hits in the win.
"Just executing pitches at the right time," Kluber said.
Cody Allen tossed 1 1/3 shutout innings to notch his 21st save of the year.
Jose Altuve posted two hits to set the team's single-season hits record in defeat, surpassing Craig Biggio's 210-hit campaign in 1998.
"He's just a special player and a special kind of guy," Astros interim manager Tommy Lawless said.
Nick Tropeano (1-1) surrendered two runs -- one earned -- on four hits and two walks over five frames for Houston, which had its five-game winning streak at Minute Maid Park snapped.
The game was tied 1-1 before the Indians plated a run in the fourth and two more in the sixth to go ahead.
Lonnie Chisenhall hit a two-out single in the fourth. Gomes then ripped a base hit to left, and Chisenhall was able to score from first when Robbie Grossman bobbled the ball in left.
In the sixth, Santana coaxed a leadoff walk and Gomes laced his two-run blast quickly into the Crawford Boxes with two outs to give Cleveland a 4-1 lead.
Alex Presley's RBI single in the eighth trimmed the deficit in half to 4-2.
Carlos Santana's RBI groundout in the top of the first opened the scoring, but the Astros got the run back in the home half on Marwin Gonzalez's RBI single.
