Yankees' Prado done for season after emergency appendectomy

New York Yankees infielder Martin Prado was placed on the 60-day disabled list Tuesday after undergoing an emergency appendectomy and will miss the remainder of the season.

Acquired from the Arizona Diamondbacks at the July 31 non-waiver trade deadline, Prado thrived in the Bronx, hitting .316/.336/.541 (144 OPS+) with seven home runs and nine doubles through 37 games with the Yankees.

Prado's impending absence represents another significant blow to his team's dwindling playoff hopes, as the Yankees currently sit six games behind the Kansas City Royals for the second American League wild-card spot.
