Royals' Duffy not expected to rejoin rotation until Sept. 22

Peter G. Aiken / USA TODAY Sports

Sidelined since Sept. 6 with inflammation in his throwing shoulder, Kansas City Royals starter Danny Duffy was hopeful he'd be back on the hill this Tuesday when his team hosts the Chicago White Sox.

The Royals, however, appear to have other ideas:

At 81-67, the Royals currently sit a game-and-a-half back of the Detroit Tigers in the American League Central and a game up on the Seattle Mariners in the race for the AL's second wild card spot.

With just 14 regular season games remaining, Duffy's return to the rotation can't happen soon enough. The 25-year-old leads all Royals starters in ERA (2.42), WHIP (1.08), home run rate (1.8 percent), and opponents' average (.201).
