Mets' Black might not pitch again this season with shoulder injury

New York Mets reliever Vic Black might have thrown his last pitch of the 2014 season.

An MRI revealed that the right-hander has a small rotator-cuff strain in his throwing shoulder and will take five to six days off.

"It's conceivable he won't pitch again this season, but we're not shutting him down completely," general manager Sandy Alderson told Adam Rubin of ESPN. "It's possible that with a little bit of rest he'll be able to pitch again. He won't pitch if it puts him in jeopardy in any way. But we're not in the business of just shutting people down."

Black, who has thrown just two innings in September due to a neck injury, has been one of the Mets' best arms out of the bullpen this season. In 34 2/3 innings, he owns a 2.60 ERA and 1.29 WHIP while striking out 32.
